Frequently Asked Questions

  • What custom restrictions should I be aware of when travelling by ship to Sweden, Finland or Estonia?

Every country has its own customs restrictions. To ensure compliance, please check the specific regulations for Sweden, Finland, and Estonia.

  • Can I see the onboard product range before my travel?

Before your journey, you can preview our onboard product range by visiting the shopping on board page. It’s a great way to plan your shopping experience and send a wishlist straight to your email, so you’ll know what to buy when on board.

  • What should I do if a product I bought on board is defective or I want to exchange it?

We guarantee the quality of products sold on our ships. The right to exchange or return applies only to faultless, unused, and unopened products and is valid only during the same voyage or cruise. Claims regarding defective products should be made directly to the ship’s store during the voyage or cruise.

If it is discovered after the trip that the purchased product is defective or incorrect, please submit a product claim using the customer feedback form. Ensure that the purchase receipt is included with the complaint.

  • When does the sale of alcohol on the Helsinki–Tallinn route end?

On MyStar and Megastar, alcohol sales end 15 minutes before arriving to Tallinn, and on Victoria I, 30 minutes before.

  • What are the restrictions on alcohol sales on Baltic Princess on the Turku–Stockholm–Turku route?

    Weekend cruise passengers

    • May purchase alcohol from the ship’s shops only on their return trip.
    • This restriction applies to departures from Friday to Saturday.
    • Alcohol sales to cruise passengers start at 09:00.

    One-way trip passengers

    • Can buy alcohol from 06:30 onwards.

    Alcohol availability

    • Alcohol is available in the ship’s restaurants and bars on both the outward and return journeys.
    • Passengers may buy alcohol on the departure evening on voyages from Turku to Stockholm or to Åland.
    • On the outward journey, it is possible to buy one bottle of wine or six cans of low-alcohol drinks (e.g., beer or cider).
    • These restrictions don’t apply on the Stockholm–Turku–Stockholm route.
  • What customs restrictions apply for snus?

Each country has its own customs restrictions. For details, visit our customs regulations page. Note that snus sale times vary by ship and route.

    Silja Serenade

    • Snus is sold on Helsinki–Stockholm route in the morning 07:30–10:00 (Finnish time), and on Stockholm–Helsinki route in the evening 17:00–21:30 (Swedish time) at the Tax Free Superstore.

  • Are tax-free prices available on Romantika?

No. Tax-free prices are not available on Romantika, as the ship sails directly between Tallinn and Stockholm and does not travel via the Åland Islands.

On Tallink Silja Line routes, tax-free prices are available on ships that travel via Åland, as the Åland Islands are outside the EU VAT and excise area and have a special fiscal status that enables tax-free shopping.

  • Why are alcohol and tobacco products available only during certain parts of the voyage on Romantika?

Alcohol and tobacco products can be sold in Romantika’s ship shops only while the ship is in Estonian territorial waters or international waters.

This is because Romantika does not sail via Åland, so alcohol and tobacco products sold in the ship’s shops are subject to Estonian excise duty. During other parts of the voyage, the sale of these products in the ship’s shops is not permitted.

The ship’s shops are open as usual. Standard EU customs rules apply, and other shop purchases are subject to Estonian or Swedish VAT depending on the direction of travel.

Alcoholic drinks in Romantika’s restaurants and bars are available throughout the voyage.
