AS Tallink Grupp, Stock Exchange Release 31.05.2006
Finnish Seamen’s Union starts illegal boycott on Superfast VIII
The Finnish Seamen’s Union (FSU) has started boycott actions against AS Tallink Grupp’s Superfast VIII vessel in the port of Hanko. The Auto- ja Kuljetusalan Työntekijäliito (ATK) which represents port workers is also a part of the boycott actions. The port workers refused this morning to unload 35 trailers which were onboard the vessel. All cars, passengers and trucks were able to unload without any problems.
AS Tallink Grupp considers the actions of the FSU as illegal and has asked the court of Helsinki this morning to grant an injunction banning the boycott as illegal. The court has indicated that it will render a decision in the case later today or tomorrow.
The boycott action will not disrupt service for passengers and cars, buses and trucks but will effect trailers where Tallink is in very strong competition with Finnish shipping companies Finnlines and Transfennica.
Tallink will inform of any new developments as they arise.
