Tallink and Infortar sponsor Estonian tennis player Kaia Kanepi with 1,5 million Estonian kroons

AS Tallink Grupp sponsors the young Estonian tennis player Kaia Kanepi with 1,1 million Estonian kroons and company’s largest shareholder AS Infortar additionally with 400 000 kroons. With this contract the companies are going to be the main sponsors of Kanepi already for the second year.

The chairman of the board of AS Tallink Grupp, Mr. Enn Pant said, that Kaia Kanepi has showed her potential to move forward in the world tennis. “We wish to give Kaia the freedom to concentrate on training and competing and we hope that this continuous support will give her a good advantage for that. As in the last year, we are also going to visit the competitions, because aside of the financial support also emotional support has an important role,” said Pant.

During one year AS Tallink Grupp will sponsor Kaia Kanepi with 1,1 million Estonian kroons, AS Infortar will add 400 000 kroons. The contract, which has also an option for extension in following years, was signed today in Tallinn.

Kaia Kanepi is the youngest player ever to get the Estonian Champion title of adult class at the age of 14. At the age of 16 she won European junior Championships and French Open in junior class. In 2001 Kanepi was 13 weeks in a row in the top of ITF junior ranking list.

In this season’s Grand Slam tournaments Kanepi made it to the second round in Australia as well as Wimbeldon and to the semifinals in Bad Gasteini WTA tournament in Austria. After seven years of break Kanepi played again in Estonian Championships becoming the already the forth champion title for her in the individual level as well as doubles.

The best result of Kanepi in this season in the WTA rankings was the 40th position gained in the end of July. Among the victories the most valuable was the one over Patty Schnyder (13.) in Miami. In September Kanepi started her training period in cooperation with the Swedish trainer Magnus Larsson for the next season.

This year Kaia Kanepi was the God Mother of the new Tallink ship M/S Superstar being built in Fincantieri shipyards in Italy. M/S Superstar will start on Tallinn-Helsinki route next spring.
