Tallink`s new cruise ferry keel will be laid today

The keel for newest and most modern cruise vessel of Tallink to be ready in 2009 is laid on Tuesday, 22nd of April in Aker Yards shipyard in Rauma, Finland.

The new cruise vessel belongs to the series of M/S Galaxy, delivered from Aker Yards Finnish shipyard in spring 2006 and currently operates on Tallinn-Helsinki route. The new cruise ferry has 927 cabins, accommodates altogether up to 2800 passengers and 1130 lane meters of vehicles. The engine capacity of the vessel is 32 000 kW, length 212 and width 29 meters, the speed 24,5 knots.

The price of the vessel is 180 million Euros.

Tallink has ordered another vessel from Aker Yards, in summer 2008 the second Galaxy-series cruise ferry for Tallinn-Helsinki route is completed in Helsinki. In recent years Tallink has been delivered three large and modern cruise ferries from Finnish shipyard, in 2002 Romantika, in 2004 Victoria and in 2006 Galaxy. In 2007 Aker Yards delivered the new generation high speed vessel M/S Star, in Fincantieri shipyards the similar high speed vessel for Tallink was completed in April 2008.
