The cruise ferry Silja Europa, which suffered from technical problems from Sunday afternoon, is now on her way to Turku harbour. Silja Europa is accompanied by the Finnish tugboat Ukko, which is securing her safe passage to Turku.
The tugboat arrived to Silja Europa at 7 o’clock in the morning. Before starting the voyage to Turku, Silja Europa and tugboat, which is attached to the aft of the ferry, made some tests in the open waters. At 8.15 am (Finnish time) Silja Europa started to sail to Turku.
The estimated time of arrival to Turku is at 16.30 (Finnish time). Before entering the harbour, the divers are going to investigate the rudder blades underneath the water surface. After that the ship will enter the harbour and the passengers can leave the ship.
Tallink Silja thanks all the passengers for understanding and apologizes for all inconveniencies.
The next departures of Silja Europa today from Turku and tomorrow from Stockholm are cancelled and all the tickets fully refunded.
Cruise ferry Silja Europa was on her way from Stockholm to Turku, when technical problems occurred. The technical problem lies in the rudder system, ship’s main engines and thrusters are working and the ship is manoeuvrable.
There are 1373 passengers and 286 crew members on board. The company is offering free meals and cabins for all passengers.
Company is constantly in contact with relevant authorities.
Silja Europa operates on Turku-Stockholm route with one daily departure from both destination harbours.
