Tallink serviced over 8 million passengers during last financial year

AS Tallink Grupp serviced a record number of 8, 1 million passengers during the last financial year, which ended on 31st of August. The passenger volumes of the company have gone up 15 percent compared to the previous year. The number of transported passenger vehicles increased by almost 200 000 units reaching 863 000 (+29 %).

According to the Vice Chairman of the Board of AS Tallink Grupp Mr. Andres Hunt are investments to the new ships as well as modern sales system the main reason behind the continuous increase of volumes „Renewal of routes during last years has had very positive feedback from the passengers. Our new sales system enables us to implement more active selling strategy and it has significantly increased for instance booking our trips online. Due to the general economic situation people also prefer spending their vacation in nearby countries and take their car with them, “added Hunt.

„Decrease of the transported cargo units is the result of the fall in trading due to the economical crises, “said Hunt.

In financial year 2008/2009 Tallink transported altogether 8 124 561 (+15%) passengers, 863 017 (+29%) passenger vehicles and 252 026 (-24%) cargo units.
In July the company reached a new record in the monthly volumes, transporting over one million passengers in one calendar month.

The largest growth was seen on Latvia-Sweden route, where Tallink transported 520 505 (+46%) passengers. The largest number of passengers - 3 485 359 (+19%) was transported on Estonia-Finland route. Finland-Sweden route experienced an increase of 11 percent in passenger volumes, reaching 3 169 453. On Estonia-Sweden route, on which the new cruise ferry Baltic Queen was launched in spring, 850 098 (+10%) passengers were serviced. The decrease (-32%) in passenger volumes was seen only on Finland-Germany route, where compared to last year 2 ferries instead of 3 were operating, reaching  the number of 99 146 passengers.

The financial year of AS Tallink Grupp begins on 1st of September and ends on 31st of August. The company is listed on Nasdaq OMX Tallinn Stock Exchange.
