Tallink`s newest cruise ferry Baltic Queen will make the first journey on Tallinn-Mariehamn-Stockholm route on 24th of April.
AS Tallink Grupp`s vice chairman of the board Mr. Andres Hunt said that in years 2002 – 2009 Tallink invested more than a billion Euros into renewal of the fleet creating the most modern fleet on Baltic Sea. „Baltic Queen is the last ship in current investment program; the next important step is to put the result in the effective use, “added Hunt.
Tallink ordered Baltic Queen, worth 180 million Euros, in December 2007. The keel of the vessel was laid on 22nd of April 2008 and the christening and launching ceremony took place on 5th of December. Shipyard STX Europe delivered the ship on 16th of April 2009. It is already the fifth modern cruise ferry built for Tallink by STX Europe. Additionally STX Europe has built Tallink`s new generation high speed vessel Star.
Baltic Queen is one of the largest cruise ferries on the Baltic Sea, accommodating up to 2800 passengers and 1130 lane meters of vehicles. The ship is 212 meters long, 29 meters wide and has the speed capacity of up to 24 knots. There are 927 cabins, 4 different restaurants, 8 bars and entertainment lounges, conference centre of 450 seats and three shops of altogether 1200 square meters. For children there is a special game room on board.
Baltic Queen has catalytic converters, which increase the environmental friendliness of the vessel. For operating in more difficult weather conditions, the ship has ice class 1 A Super.
Baltic Queen will operate on Tallinn-Mariehamn-Stockholm route and will replace the first new building ordered by Tallink, cruise ferry Romantika. Romantika will start operating on Riga-Stockholm route replacing the passenger ferry Regina Baltica.
