AS Tallink Grupp, Press release 21.11.2006
About the fuel quality on company’s ships
It is unfortunate that the Swedish TV4 has once again came up with the story against Tallink which presents fabrications based on the malicious comments.
Tallink has no plans and no intention to lower the quality of the fuel on any of our vessels. All our vessels consume low sulphur fuel. Silja vessels will continue to operate 0.5 percent sulphur fuel during the whole journey.
While worldwide the sulphur content of the ship fuel is usually 3.5 percent and often up to 4.5 percent the maximum sulphur content in the Baltic Sea region is 1.5 percent according to the MARPOL convention from May 2006. Tallink is strictly following all rules.
At the Stockholm archipelago and coastal waters all our vessels use the fuel with lowest sulphur (0.5 percent). Tallink is currently working on obtaining ISO 14000 environment certificate in the coming months to prove our care and protection to environment. Continuously Tallink is investing into the new fleet which have latest and most enchanced technologies onboard.
