AS Tallink Grupp signed on 27th of December a charter contract for the vessel Meloodia with Spanish shipping company Eurolineas Maritimas S.A. operating the brand Balèaria. Meloodia will be chartered to the Mediterranean Sea for at least ten months starting from January 2007.
AS Tallink Grupp Financial Director Janek Stalmeister said, that chartering Meloodia is a part of the overall strategy regarding the shipping route Tallinn-Helsinki. With the arrival of Star in April 2007 new uses for the current fleet need to be found. “The goal on the Tallinn-Helsinki route is the continual renewal of the fleet. Already our new cruise ship Galaxy operates there and in spring we will add Star. For the current fleet which has operated on the route thus far, we are finding new implementations in accordance with market volumes which would be most economically profitable for the company as this contract is,” added Stalmeister.
Meloodia will end operating on the Tallinn-Helsinki route on the 31st of December 2006 The vessel Vana Tallinn will be transferred to the Helsinki-Tallinn route from the 10th of January and will continue with Melodia’s current schedule until the arrival of Star in April. From the 1st of January until the 9th AutoExpress 2 will provide daily service between Helsinki and Tallinn.
Meloodia,owned by AS Tallink Grupp was built in 1979 and accommodates up to 1600 passengers and 1190 lane meters for vehicles and cargo.
