Tallink`s new vessel Star started on Tallinn-Helsinki route

Tallink’s new generation high speed vessel M/S Star started operating on the Tallinn-Helsinki shipping route on Thursday, April 12. The new Shuttle service ferry is unique in the world, being the fastest vessel ever built for so short distance route (80 km).

With the new ship, Tallink provides year-round high speed service on Tallinn-Helsinki route. The high ice class of Star enables it to operate also in winter. Tallink Shuttle service and its schedule will be stable all through the year, as the ship is able to operate under any weather conditions. The new ship covers the distance between Tallinn and Helsinki in about two hours.

Star introduces a totally new conception in the Tallinn-Helsinki ferry traffic – in addition to high speed travel, passengers have various leisure opportunities on board. Amongst several restaurants, fast food outlets and pubs the ship also features a business lounge, which allows passengers to work in comfort during travel.

Tallink Star departs Tallinn at 7 am, 2 pm and 8.30 pm and Helsinki at 10.30 am, 5 pm and 11.55 pm, the full schedule is available at Tallink website www.tallink.com. The price per single passenger ticket starts from EUR 20, car packages from EUR 70.

M/S Star has 11 decks, 2300 seats, 520 beds and can accommodate up to 1900 passengers. The car deck of 2000 lane meters has space for up to 120 trucks or 450 cars. The new vessel has a gross tonnage of 33 000, length of 186 and width of 27,7 meters, power of engines is 48 000 kW and speed 27,5 knots.

The vessel was constructed by Finnish Aker Yards Helsinki shipping yard, the vessel cost over 110 million euros.
