Aivar Sõerd becomes the managing director of Tallink Hotels

Mr. Aivar Sõerd, the former Estonian Minister of Finance became the managing director of Estonian hotel chain Tallink Hotels, announced AS Tallink Grupp.

The board member of AS Tallink Grupp Mr. Andres Hunt said, that Aivar Sõerd is a person, whose strong managing skills do not need any longer introduction. “We are glad, that Aivar Sõerd decided to join Tallink`s team, since the company always needs active people with a wide knowledge and experience. As the managing director of Tallink Hotels he will be in charge of the managing and development activities of this branch. With an additional talented person in our team we hope to further develop the services of our hotels, rise the productivity and guarantee the success of the future hotel projects,” said Hunt.

Aivar Sõerd said that his goal in Tallink hotels will be assuring the stable and excellent service level. “The decision of becoming the managing director for Tallink hotels was also supported by the earlier positive cooperation experience with the company,” added Sõerd.

In 2005-2007 as the Minister of Finance Sõerd was the member of the previous Estonian Government. He has also run Estonian Tax and Customs Board (1999-2003) and the printing house Vaba Maa (2004-2005). Aivar Sõerd is born in 1964 and has graduated Tartu University with the degree in economics.

At the moment Tallink Hotels` hotel chain is operating with two hotels in central Tallinn, Estonia.

Tallink City Hotel, with the former name of Best Western Hotel Tallink, is a business class hotel with 332 rooms, conference facilities and meeting suites. Additionally the hotel offers the services of two restaurants, a nightclub, beauty center and the traveling agency Tallink Travel Club. In April 2007 a new modern conference center with the capacity of 244 persons was opened on the hotel’s first floor. Tallink City Hotel had altogether over 140,000 clients in financial year 2005/2006, 5000 clients more than a year before. Hotels average occupancy increased 2 percent and reached 60 percent in the last financial year.

New Tallink Spa & Conference Hotel opened in March 2007 has 275 rooms, a conference center for up to 300 persons, a restaurant and a cigar bar. In spa section of the hotel there are three pools, including a pool with a pool-bar and a sea salt pool, which is partly an all year round opened open air pool. Additionally there is a Sauna World with seven different saunas and a Beauty Center offering different innovative procedures.

The prior managing director of Tallink Hotels Mrs. Ulvi Vallimäe continues the work in the company as the managing director for Tallink City Hotel.

Hotels of Tallink Hotels` chain are operated by AS Tallink Grupp subsidiary OÜ TLG Hotell.
